Gothic Skull Candle by RebelTaz My girlfriend saw this in a catalog and wanted to get it for my niece for Christmas (she's dark) but it was sold out so I thought... Hey! I can print that. A few failed attempts at blender and voila! One gothic skull candle dripping blood on a stylish base. I tried to model this so that it wouldn't need any supports and that is how I printed it. Not saying a support or two wouldn't help the base print a little more smoothly, but as you can see, it prints fine without any. Finish it as you please (obviously) but what I did was prime the candle with filler primer first and then sand smooth(ish). Then, I spray painted the whole candle flat black After that dried, I it it with a light coat of almond colored spray paint only spraying from above to try and preserve the black in the shadows. The blood and the black in the eyes/mouth recesses were painted with Plaid FolkArt acrylic craft paint. Next came a wash of super diluted black (the aforementioned craft paint) followed by a few highlights of red on the tops of the blood drips to bring back the bright color the wash had dulled. Everything was sealed with a coat or two of clear spray paint. The base was simply lightly brushed with some antique gold "Rub-N-Buff." If you've never used it, that stuff is AMAZING!!! The candle is designed to accept an LED tealight, but it will also work well with an LED votive candle. Whichever look you prefer. You'll need to print three of the pins_x3.stl to aid in alignment. Since Thingiverse's Download_All is broken (what's new?), I am including a skull_candle.zip that contains all of the files that should be in the Download_All archive. Hope you like it and I'd love to see your makes! ✞ MERRY CHRISTMAS ✞
