cults3d
A meticulously restored and refurbished scan of the Gothic fountain situated outside the Providence Athenaeum at 251 Benefit Street in Providence, Rhode Island. The scan was expertly captured using 123D Catch: http://www.123dapp.com/catch The fountain was constructed in 1873 from funds generously donated by Mrs. Anna Richmond. Directly connected to the Pawtuxet River, the words "Come here everyone that thirsteth" are intricately carved into the granite. Legend has it that visitors who drink the water will undoubtedly return. This esteemed library was founded in 1831, built in 1837, and officially opened on July 11, 1838. The renowned writers Edgar Allan Poe, Sarah Helen Whitman, and H.P. Lovecraft were frequent visitors to the Athenaeum. "...our old Athenaeum, where Poe spent many an hour, and wrote his name at the bottom of one of his unsigned poems in a magazine..." -- A letter by H.P. Lovecraft to James F. Morton, dated May 3, 1923 "Providence, which spurned Eddie while he was alive, now reveres him after his passing, and treasures every memory connected with him. The hotel where he stopped, the churchyard where he wandered, the house and garden where he courted his beloved, the Athenaeum where he used to dream and ramble through its corridors—all are still with us, and remain unchanged even to the smallest detail." -- A letter by H.P. Lovecraft to Frank Belknap Long, dated February 1924 To learn more about the history of the Providence Athenaeum, visit: http://www.providenceathenaeum.org/facts/facts.html http://www.hplovecraft.com/creation/sites/rhode.asp A tutorial on how to edit and clean up this scan is featured in the "Scanning in 3D" chapter of Getting Started with MakerBot : http://shop.oreilly.com/product/0636920026723.do?
