Gotek USB floppy emulator case
prusaprinters

A case for the Gotek USB floppy drive emulator. Designed for the BBC Micro but may be compatible with other platforms.

Three case variants included: no logo, indented BBC Micro logo, and cutout to hold insert with raised logo (which allows the logo to be printed in a different colour by performing a filament swap at the layer where the logo starts). The logos are aligned with the recessed area on the Gotek unit so it blends in with any labelling.

Two rear section variants included: no passthrough (for a single data cable and power cable going in), and passthrough (with holes for data connector and BBC Micro power connector to connect another drive in-line).

If using a passthrough setup, the passthrough data connector needs to be at the end of the cable a short distance from the Gotek drive's connector, and the passthrough power connector needs to be in line on the power cable a short distance from the Gotek power connector at the end (see photos for positioning).

To assemble:

Print the part variants required as above.

Feed the cables in through the slots in the lower back section.

Place the upper back section over the top. If using passthrough cables, fit the power and data passthrough connectors in the holes provided. Both connectors should be held secure by the case.

Fix both halves together with two M3x10 screws.

Fold any excess wiring up into the cavity in the back section, then place the case lid over the top of the Gotek unit. Secure the back section to the lid with two M3x18 screws.

Secure the lid to the Gotek unit with four M3x5 screws. You can use longer screws if you want, but first open up your Gotek unit and inspect the inside to be sure you're not going to hit any internal components. It may be necessary to make a slight countersink to the holes in the side of the Gotek unit so the screws will bite when turned.
