Gorilla Humerus (VCU_3D_4319)
sketchfab
This humerus is from Samson, a male gorilla captured in the wild in the early 1960s who was initially kept at the Buffalo Zoo. In 1980, he was transferred to Chicago's Brookfield Zoo for breeding purposes. A stroke claimed his life in Spring 1988, and an autopsy later revealed that a large tumor had developed. Two of Samson's five offspring are still alive today: Kwizera, a female who is currently housed at the Memphis Zoo and was born just before her father's death on March 11, 1988; and Kwisha, a male born April 28, 1988 in the Toledo Zoo following his father's passing. Dr. Robert Feranec of the New York State Museum kindly provided this information. A 3D scan of the skull was conducted using a Go!Scan 50 on March 7, 2019. The specimen is cataloged as ZM 3922 and is courtesy of the New York State Museum.
