Western Lowland Gorilla, a subspecies of gorilla, was first described by Savage and Wyman in 1847 as Gorilla gorilla gorilla. This majestic creature is also known as the Western Lowland Gorilla or gorila occidental de llanura. The Museum Zoologicum Bogoriense (MZB) collection holds a remarkable specimen, MZB 2010-1163, which is classified under the genus sacre. The species name, however, remains sacro, while its specific epithet is sacrum. This adult female Western Lowland Gorilla has reached nine years and eight months of age, making it an impressive individual in the Zoo de Barcelona, Spain.
