GoPro Tripod Mount - Slide In Nut
thingiverse
After trying a couple of other GoPro tripod mounts that didn't quite work for me, I decided to design my own. I found three different size 1/4-20 nuts in various bits and bobs cases, all with the same outer diameter but each a different height. The other tripod mounts I tried wouldn't accommodate any of these nuts properly, so I wanted to create a more universal design that would fit different sized 1/4-20 nuts, eliminate the need for glue, and securely hold the nut in place without embedding it during printing. Yes, I overthought this simple little thing, but that's all part of the fun! Many others have created good designs, so I'm not alone. There are three different files with varying heights to fit different nuts. The file names are slightly rounded for simplicity, corresponding to the actual measurements: 4.1mm, 4.85mm, and 5.55mm. I've designed the opening to accommodate either a corner or flat side of the nut facing out, ensuring a snug but not overly tight fit. Depending on your printer's capabilities, you might experience slight variations in the snugness of the nut. I was able to get mine about flush with the outer wall by hand before needing to use a screwdriver. The depth of the nut cavity allows for it to be pressed all the way in and align with the bottom hole (which is slightly oversized), complete with a gentle inward angle on the inner walls to center the nut. The small hole at the back accommodates removal, fitting up to about a 5mm wide screwdriver (except for the smallest design, which may require a hobby-sized screwdriver). On one side, there's a cutout designed specifically for original GoPro nuts, accommodating two different sizes with ease. This same cutout also fits No. 6 size screws. I added an extra cutout to accommodate larger nuts in case you've lost the original GoPro screws or nuts – No. 10 size nuts fit nicely while No. 8 can work, albeit loosely. I'm not an engineer and have no formal 3D education beyond YouTube tutorials. If you have any tips or suggestions, please share! I've tried to make these as compatible as possible, but testing is limited to what I have on hand. Feel free to let me know if your 1/4-20 nut doesn't fit properly or if you have other ideas.
