GoPro Session - ADV visor mount (Arai XD4)
thingiverse
This is a mount that I designed to hold a GoPro Session camera securely on the visor of an Arai XD4 motorcycle helmet. I'm using a HERO Session model, which was purchased in 2016. The mount features holes specifically designed for 1/4-20 threaded inserts; these were melted into place with a soldering iron. You'll need to drill two holes into your visor and then use plastic 1/4-20 screws to secure the mount in position. A 3M mushroom-head "Dual Lock" material is applied to both the back of the Session camera and the inside of the mount. To install, simply slide the camera in place and it will click securely. To remove, push the bottom of the camera outwards. The mount provides easy access to the power button located on the lower back of the camera and the main record button on top. You can also view the camera's information screen while riding. The red recording LED is visible through the visor as well. The mount positions about half of the camera below your helmet's visor, which helps keep it low-profile. However, it may take some getting used to because the lower half of the camera will be in your field of vision. I successfully tested this mount on a 3200-mile dirt trip across the western US (https://youtu.be/pW_g37O8gL0). It never came loose and performed flawlessly. If I were to design another version, I might consider raising the camera slightly. Use at your own risk. Always ride safely and enjoy the experience.
