GoPro Session 10W IR LED Mount
thingiverse
This is a custom housing for a 10W IR LED & current source designed specifically for night vision in racing quads. Mount it directly into your GoPro using no IR cut filter on your FPV camera to gain unparalleled visibility during nighttime flights. The goal here isn't to illuminate an entire football pitch, but rather provide a clear view of the ground beneath your quad - the most challenging aspect of flying at night. Testing revealed that this setup can reach temperatures around 110 degrees after just 7 minutes on the ground; performance will be even better in flight with increased airflow. To assemble this project, you'll need: * 2 x 30mm M3 screws * Some wire for connections * A 10W 850nm Infrared IR LED (available at https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/232399188379) * A 10W 900mA Constant Current LED driver (found at https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152306659308) * A JST 5pin female balance lead connector (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301022060771) It's essential to use a camera with excellent low-light capabilities, such as the Runcam Eagle 2 or Owl. For maximum night vision performance, set your camera's gain to its highest setting. Additionally, ensure that the IR cut filter is removed from your camera lens or sensor. Some cameras have this filter integrated into the lens, while others place it on the sensor. The Runcam Eagle 2, for instance, has it in the lens. You can find tutorials online explaining how to remove the filter using a soldering iron; however, I found it more efficient to simply smash it out with caution due to the tiny glass fragments involved.
