GoPro Mag Mount

GoPro Mag Mount

A buddy needed a mount for his GoPro so he could attach his GoPro to his car or truck and shoot automotive videos from different locations outside his vehicle. He had only found a suction cup based one and was worried about sending his expensive GoPro rolling down the road. He asked me to come up with a design that could be easily attached to the car or truck and placed on any part of it. After some thinking, I came up with this - a magnetic base mount. I used 4 Neodymium Rare Earth Magnets (which have a 13lb pulling force) at the four corners and designed it so the cross has a leading leg in front and behind the camera to counter lifting forces. This means it can be used on any steel part of the body as long as the curve isn't too much for the magnets to make contact with all four sides. I considered raising the center up but that would allow air under the mount and decided against it. Since the pictures were added, a very thin layer of spray-on Plasti Dip was applied to the bottom of the mount to prevent scratching the paint and ensure it doesn't slide on smooth surfaces. There's a link below for the magnets I ordered and used - just epoxy them in place. This mount has withstood speeds of 100+ mph without moving. Note: I'm not responsible for any damage to your camera or car/truck from using this camera mount. It works great for me and my friend, so I thought I'd share it here.
