GoPro Hero 8 Faceplate This design for the new GoPro Hero 8 is inspired by the Ethix Facehugger. https://www.team-blacksheep.com/products/prod:ethix_gopro_mask Because the lens of the new Hero 8 isn't replaceable and Ethix didn't release a version for the Hero 8 yet, I decided to design my own to protect my lens from frontal impacts. You can strap down a battery strap over the front and over the side just like the original Facehugger. As you can see in the video below, the skin isn't in the view. On one of the first shots, the props are in view, but this must be because of the battery pushing too hard against the back, making the angle slightly less or the camera has been pushed out of the skin a little. On the other shots, you don't see the props. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKGCZt_1yD0 To protect the rear screen of the GoPro, I'm using a GoPro Floaty sponge. I'm printing it with the lens protector to the print bed with full supports. That way, I got the best printing results. In this print, I have included some wedges for the TBS Source One frame, which I'm currently using. They are 25-degree angle wedges. See the change log for more info about the wedges. Changelog 10-11-2019 * TBS Source One wedge v2 - Added a new version of the wedge for the TBS Source One frame, which is better against vibrations to prevent jello and give cleaner gyro data for Reelsteady Pro once available. * TBS Source One wedge v3 - Same as v2 but this version also has battery strap guides on the bottom to prevent the camera from sliding around on the mount. * TBS Source One wedge v3 (back cut) - Same as v3 but with a cutout on the back of the wedge. Requires a bit more support so it's harder to print then the v3 but fits more clean with the battery pat and is slightly lighter. * GoPro Hero 8 Faceplate - Removed the first version because version 2 has a cleaner finish and fits better. 04-11-2019 * GoPro Hero 8 Faceplate v2 - Reinforced and redesigned the lens protection for more strength on frontal impact and a better fit. Also redesigned the front and top strap holders for a tighter fit so it's less likely the faceplate will move while flying. To keep the weight about the same, I've cut some slots on the sides which also provide a little more grip for the battery strap.
