This innovative clip-in frame is designed for the GoPro Hero 3, offering a lightweight, open, rear-loading design that provides complete access to all components while still allowing seamless removal and replacement of the camera. With this unique setup, users can effortlessly service their Hero 3 without ever needing to disassemble or reassemble the entire unit. Additionally, the bottom section remains closed at all times, precluding direct access to the battery for those utilizing the Hero 4; however, its open rear offers an accessible route for utilization of the camera's display screen. As it stands, the availability of this particular feature for the Hero 4 has not been personally verified. Users are advised that slots are strategically positioned within the retaining clips to facilitate an optional Velcro strap or zip tie for securely fastening the camera in place. The included faceplate efficiently shields the front-facing lens from glares caused by reflecting light off nearby glass surfaces. A fusion of custom designs and part reappropriations were implemented when creating this clip-in frame. Initially, I referenced existing work on http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:507061 for inspiration but elected to create novel components using Lightwave Modeler, subsequently exporting these files into STL format. For printing enthusiasts seeking precise results, it's recommended to utilize a mix of standard "normal print quality" settings alongside a 100% Fill Density configuration on their chosen 3D printer model. Notably, a personal Ultimaker 2 successfully produced the design within an estimated two hours of operational time. Minor overhang imperfections were left unchecked since they had little bearing on the overall structural integrity and functionality of the end product. By lightly sanding the faceplate to eradicate excessive shine from the print surface, users can acquire a desirable matte finish ideal for applications involving display through transparent mediums. This subtle enhancement enables minimal glare to interfere with images presented through these clear glass barriers.
