GoPro Flipper
thingiverse
This is an initial attempt to design a flip filter holder for the GoPro Hero 6, specifically tailored for underwater photography. Typically, underwater photographers need a color filter to aid with white balancing, and this holder provides an easy way to attach it while still allowing removal when needed, such as during strobe usage. It also serves as a convenient method to add a +16 diopter lens, granting the GoPro an 8cm object distance for macro videos of underwater subjects. The assembly requires some M3 stainless bolts and nuts. Upon initial printing, calibration issues arose, necessitating size adjustments to ensure a snug fit around the GoPro's window. Users should exercise caution when printing, as other models and sizes are possible, and the final fit must be precise. The filterdia parameter must be adjusted according to the desired filter size. In this case, the designer found that creating screwthreads was unnecessary, as filters could simply be pressed into place with a bit of pressure. For those who wish to stack two filters, the second mount needs to be created in SCAD with the first parameter changed to 2 or 3. For example: filterholder(1,filter_tapdia); can be modified by changing the "1" to a "2" or "3" for a second layer. However, users should note that stacking filters can reduce the field of view in underwater environments, but this is less of an issue due to the smaller size of typical filters. In contrast, in air, the reduced field of view may pose more significant problems.
