I was on the hunt for a phone mount that would seamlessly integrate with my trusty GoPro grip. That's when I stumbled upon the "Easy Smartphone Gopro Mount" by Heliox, which initially caught my eye with its sleek design. However, upon closer inspection, I realized that the extension mechanism was woefully thin, rendering it wobbly and flimsy to a fault - my phone practically fell out of it. Determined to create a more robust solution, I decided to get creative and make some significant upgrades to the original design. Starting from scratch with Fusion 360, I began reimagining the mount's framework. I further refined my edits using OpenSCAD, giving the extension mechanism a much-needed makeover. By widening it and shaping it into a sturdy wedge, I ensured that it would securely lock into place, preventing any accidental drops. To add an extra layer of durability to this redesigned mount, I opted for 3D printing both parts without relying on supports. For maximum strength, I selected "50%" infill and "4" vertical shell perimeters - a winning combination that would withstand even the most rugged conditions. With its enhanced design, this versatile phone mount is capable of accommodating phones with widths ranging from 62mm to 92mm (including case).
