Unfortunately, the GoPro is woefully inadequate when it comes to capturing close-up shots. By simply attaching a magnifying lens in front of the camera, it can suddenly focus on incredibly short distances. With the lens I used (a relic from an old slide projector), my GoPro can now focus on anything within 7cm to 9cm. However, if you build your own construction, the lens you'll use will undoubtedly be different from mine, which means your area of focus will also differ significantly. You may also need to modify the 3D file and adapt it to the unique shape of your lens.
