Google Nest G3 Thermostat Plate Retainers

These are retainers for the Nest G3 thermostat trim plate that goes on the wall behind the thermostat. It you have a single gang box instead of just a wire sticking out of the wall, the trim plate allows you to mount the thermostat on the wall (see example photo). One is for mounting the plate horizontally and the other is for mounting the plate vertically. The thermostat connector only goes on one way with the leveling bubble at the top. The mounting screws go through the connector plate and the trim plate into the retainer. There is a cross piece in the center of the retainer that you can put a string through and pull on the retainer while driving the screws. Otherwise you are likely to push the retainer into the wall cavity. The picture does not include the cross piece as its from a previous generation of the design. Depending on the screws that you get with your thermometer, the holes may need drilled out a bit to avoid splitting. I had to use a 3/16" drill after printing. For what its worth, they do make metal adapter plates to put behind the trim plate to make it fit a single gang box. The stack up would have made the trim plate proud of my wall by an 1/8" inch and the metal plate was not included with my thermostat. Besides, I just had a hole in the wall the size of a single gang box with no box.
