During this unprecedented time in history, many people have turned to innovative ways to stay active and outdoors during the COVID-19 pandemic. In various parts of the world, golfing has emerged as a popular pastime for numerous individuals. Due to the nature of the pandemic, many open golf courses have not provided carts for their customers. Golfers have started walking the courses and utilizing golf push carts to transport their clubs. These carts offer an easier way to carry clubs without strapping them on your back. This has led me to create a mount that attaches to the umbrella stand of a Clicgear Golf Push Cart. Many golfers use their phones on the course to track yardage and score, making it essential to have quick access to their devices while playing. I tested my design on the course and refined it through multiple iterations. During the design process, I performed calculations to achieve precise tolerances in my model. I primarily used 1mm tolerances, which has worked well with my specific 3D printer. When printing the mount, I employed a .8mm nozzle to maximize strength and rigidity. The current mount accommodates a Samsung Galaxy S4 with a case, a golf ball, and two tees. This model is printed in two parts, allowing for adjustable angles depending on the user's preference. The two parts attach using an M5 bolt and nut, which creates friction that keeps them securely in place when tightened. The mount attaches to the umbrella stand of the push cart using zip ties that pass through holes in the mount and tighten the plastic around it. I fabricated this design using an FDM 3D printer with supports and sanding, but a different type of 3D printing method may be beneficial for future iterations. I have recently added a new phone holder to the clamp part of the mount. This adjustable holder accommodates various types of phones using a gear mechanism and a rubber band on the clamp to create a spring-like action. The rubber band is optional but enhances clamping force. This updated design still utilizes the same mounting system and attachment pieces as before, making it easy to assemble and use. This design can be 3D printed using FDM, but SLA printing may be more suitable due to overhangs in the model.
