Asteroid 6489 Golevka stands out remarkably from its near-Earth counterparts by virtue of its relatively low profile. Measuring just half a kilometer across, this small yet massive asteroid weighs in at approximately 210 billion kilograms or 460 billion pounds. On the celestial scale, Golevka may seem unremarkable, but it's also surprisingly well-documented, thanks to observations via radar in 1991, 1995, and 1999, as well as this past May. An international team of astronomers, featuring researchers from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, has used this comprehensive data set to conduct a meticulous analysis of the asteroid's orbital path. The team's findings are published in the December 5 issue of Science.
