Golden Wave Pendulums
grabcad
This project was created using Autodesk Inventor 2014 for dynamic simulation purposes. The 1.67 rotations per minute (10 degrees per second) imposed motion on the Escapement Cylinder drives the action, excluding any friction. The restitution is set at maximum between the weights' contact points. Due to cost considerations, gold was chosen for the pendulum weights, increasing their mass to 835 grams compared to steel (340 grams) or brass (367 grams). The Escapement Cylinder rotates, releasing "Pendulum L" for oscillation. Attached images highlight the construction of the cylinder and various gaps that free pendulums in succession. At first glance, the movement appears random, but it's governed by dynamics. To view the simulation, download all files into a directory and open with Inventor 2014 or later versions. Access Environments/Dynamic Simulation and press play. Reduce image count to 1000 if simulation takes too long. Happy viewing!
