Golden rhombohedron svq ring v.1
thingiverse
Introducing a unique 3D printed ring featuring Robert Ammann's golden rhombohedra from around 1975. This fascinating regular polyhedron has the property of packing space in aperiodic tessellations. Its faces are made up of golden rhombi, with diagonals in harmonic proportion (1/φ). The design is related to Roger Penrose's rhombi, found in the spatial diagonal of Ammann's rhombohedra. This ring was 3D printed at the Digital Fabrication Laboratory of the University of Seville's School of Architecture with an interior diameter of 20mm. The files include a Rhino 3D file and STL versions in ASCII and binary formats. The piece has been successfully printed on a rather upscale 3D printer, but has not yet been tested on a MakerBot. The creator hopes to upload other sizes soon and invites users to share the design under a CC-BY-SA license with credits given to The Commons Factory / Jose Perez de Lama aka OSFA.
