Gold weight in the form of a two standing male figures at The British Museum, London

myminifactory

This figurative gold-weight, cast in brass, takes the form of two standing male figures with flexed knees facing each other. One man has his right hand pressed against his mouth and his left arm extended outward from his side, while the other holds both arms and hands in front of him. The figures stand on a flat rectangular-shaped base that provides stability. This weight may symbolize the reunion of two legendary friends from Asante, known as Amoako and Adu, who meet again after many years apart. Both men have faced misfortune and have become impoverished. In some castings, one of them is depicted holding a bunch of keys, representing all that's left of their former wealth (Rattray, 1923,312). This object contributes to "Scan The World," a non-profit initiative launched by MyMiniFactory to create a digital archive of fully printable sculptures and artworks from around the globe. These models are available for free public access through an open-source community effort.
