The Mortuary Temple of Ramesses III at Medinet Habu stands out as a significant New Kingdom period temple in the West Bank of Luxor, Egypt. This temple structure is notable not only for its size but also for its impressive architecture and artwork. The temple's fame can be attributed to the intricate reliefs that adorn its walls, which vividly depict the arrival and defeat of the Sea Peoples during Ramesses III's reign. The temple itself measures 150 meters in length, exhibiting a conventional design reminiscent of the nearby Mortuary Temple of Ramesses II, also known as the Ramesseum. The temple grounds cover an area of approximately 210 meters by 300 meters and feature over 7,000 square meters of beautifully decorated wall reliefs. Despite some wear and tear, the walls remain relatively well-preserved, showcasing the temple's rich history. The original entrance to the temple is marked by a fortified gate-house known as a migdol, a characteristic architectural feature commonly found in Asiatic fortresses from that era. This massive mudbrick enclosure surrounds the temple, possibly serving as a protective barrier against potential threats.
