This small sculpture embodies the essence of Tlaloc, a powerful deity from ancient Mexico. Recovered from the Ball Game I at Tula, it showcases the god's iconic breastplate and traditional dress, combined with the unmistakable features of his face. As both a benevolent provider of life-giving rain and an unforgiving force of storms and drought, Tlaloc's dual nature is reflected in this captivating sculpture. According to Aztec mythology, Tlaloc ruled over the 3rd Sun and was associated with Mazalt (Deer) on the 7th day of creation. His calendar equivalent was 9 Ocelotl, representing the Jaguar, while he held the position of number 8 among the 13 Lords of the Day and ninth Lord of the Night. The eagle, a symbol of power and strength, serves as Tlaloc's animal sign, reflecting his majestic presence in Aztec mythology.
