If you're determined to break it wide open, go ahead and use planks 1 and 2. However, if you're not set on smashing it apart, just stick with plank. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend breaking it at all - instead, try gluing the entire lid back together. I discovered that before I painted it, the lid had a tendency to collapse much more often than after I gave it a fresh coat of paint.
