Goalie Pad Replacement Buckle
thingiverse
Replacement buckles designed for Goalie Pads come with 7/8" straps. The original broken buckles were attached to loops sewn into the pad seams and proved difficult to replace. A new female end is designed to work around this problem, easily attaching to a sewn-in loop by tucking it in and sliding the pin through for secure attachment. The male end will grip under tension while remaining quick and easy to adjust. A variation on the female end allows two buckles attached to one loop. A set of buckles are holding up so far on my son's pads, but YMMV. The buckles on my son's goalie pads have lasted over a year now without breakage or complaints as of May 2017. Print settings include using a Da Vinci 1.0A (Repetier) printer with no rafts and no supports. The resolution is set at 0.2, and infill is at 80%. Notes specify that these buckles are designed for ABS filament for added strength and resilience. Printing two perimeters will result in the best outcomes. If tops of the female end appear "melted", printing two or more at a time can help cool the plastic between layers. Buckle ends should be quite firm after first print, and if tight, trimming any spread on the first layer of both male and female ends is necessary. The retaining pin for the female end must fit closely but do not force it, as this will weaken the buckle and potentially cause it to split. Gently sand the sides of the pin with an emery board or file until it slides in smoothly under a little pressure. If loose, apply a drop of ABS slurry to each end once in place.
