Go gopher golang mascot - split in half for ez FDM printing
thingiverse
I discovered that the original gopher parts were uniquely shaped, making it difficult to slice them all for printing on my relatively poor FDM printer. When I considered printing the complete gopher, I realized its base would require extensive support and I had concerns about its stability as the Z-axis increased. To overcome these issues, I decided to divide the gopher in half and added alignment pegs to secure the two parts together after printing. The result was a beautifully printed model on my budget-friendly printer. The holes for the pegs measure 7mm, while the pegs themselves were downsized to 6.8mm, which proved to be an ideal fit on my printer, ensuring a snug hold that kept the piece intact.
