As a result, the rollout was ahead of the RGM-79 GM. Developed around the same time, it shares a production line with the RX-79[G] Gundam Ground Type, and despite its name, it is a machine that is practically different from the RGM-79 GM produced based on the RX-78's data. The Gundam Ground Type was designed to incorporate the surplus parts of the RX-78, but the production number is limited due to this, and this machine was developed for the purpose of compensating for the shortage of quantity. For this reason, 80% of this unit is supplemented with parts common to the RX-79[G], and 20% with parts of the later RGM-79. In addition, the backpack has introduced a ground-use model that eliminates the co-generators and the capacitors for beam sabers. The armor material continues to use high-strength Luna Titanium Alloy. On the other hand, the main body generator was changed to a low output one. About fifty units were produced, but due to the high cost of armor, full-scale mass production was not possible. However, the composition of the head was followed by the later RGM-79 GM, and its operational data was also the basis for later mass-produced MS development.
