Glowing Apple of Eden with Glowing Base (remix)
thingiverse
This is Assassin's Creed: Apple of Eden Remix The Apple of Eden from Assassin's Creed has been remixed and reimagined as a 3D printed project, with the original Eden Apple being the sole creation. The remix includes new electronics and a 3D printed base that complements the apple. Check out the videos below to see how the Apple of Eden and its base work together. The Apple of Eden features two 3D printed files: one for the apple itself and four files for the base. The apple glows when it is intact, but separates into two glowing halves when pulled apart. The magnets inside help hold the pieces together, and soldered wires allow them to conduct power. (See videos.) When placed on top of the stand, the base lights up, and automatically shuts off when the apple is removed. (Watch the video to see it in action.) Since I didn't have access to the original source files for the Eden Apple, I had to make some adjustments to accommodate the electronics. To fit the components inside each half, I had to cut out some interior inserts and create a conduit for the wires using grooves. The base has two doors with holes for the magnets, which are designed to be a tight tolerance. You may need to use pliers to gently squeeze them into place or apply hot glue to secure them. To avoid having the magnets come loose, it's better to slide the doors apart instead of pulling them out. (See videos.) The top lid of the base can be attached with hot glue, and the disc on top can also be secured using hot glue. Just make sure that the squares line up so that the sensor isn't blocked. Electronic Components: No project is complete without Adafruit! Here are the electronics used in the Apple of Eden remix: * Adafruit Trinket (part #1501) * Adafruit Magnets (part #9) * Adafruit NeoPixel Ring (part #1643) * Adafruit PowerBoost 500 (part #1903) * Adafruit SPDT Slide Switch (part #805) * Adafruit LiPo Battery 3.7v 350mAh (part #2750) * Adafruit Wire Wrap (part #1446) The base uses the following electronics: * Adafruit Trinket (part #1501) * Adafruit Pololu Sensor (part #1927) * Adafruit Magnets (part #9) * Adafruit NeoPixel Ring (part #1463) * Adafruit PowerBoost 500 (part #1903) * Adafruit SPDT Slide Switch (part #805) * Adafruit LiPo Battery 3.7v 500mAh (part #1578) * Adafruit Wire Wrap (part #1446) Note: You can replace the Adafruit Trinket with the Adafruit Gemma to save space. To achieve a silver outline, I used a low-tech solution - a silver sharpie! All three pieces can be recharged using a mini USB cable. If you have any questions or need further clarification, feel free to leave a comment below. Print Settings: * Printer Brand: FlashForge * Printer Model: FlashForge Creator Pro * Supports: Yes * Resolution: 0.200 mm * Infill: 20% * Notes: Print orientation is shown in the photo above. * Material used: Transparent Yellow 1.75mm ABS (PLA can also be used, but I didn't have any available at the time.) * Software used: Simplify3D To allow for easy removal of supports, I adjusted my settings to a low support infill percentage and dense infill percentage. I used 14% for both. Post-Printing: Once printed, remove the supports from the Apple of Eden and its base. The result should be two glowing apple halves and a light-up base that complements them perfectly! How I Designed This Project I used 123D Design to bring this project to life.
