Globoid (Throated) Worm Drive Model
thingiverse
This is a fully functional hand-cranked model of the throated (also known as globoid) worm drive that works seamlessly. To build it, you will need 10 metric countersunk Phillips-head screws M3x12 and 2 metric nuts M3, which can be purchased affordably on eBay. If you are curious about how to design a throated worm drive, we have an in-depth video tutorial available at www.otvinta.com. We highly recommend that the two halves of the worm shaft be printed with a raft for improved coupling and stability. The raft and any remaining residue should be carefully removed using sandpaper. If the crankhandle's grip is printed correctly, it should rotate smoothly around the handle. Note that the parts clamp1.stl and clamp2.stl in the archive are identical. There are two versions of the stand available: one with a logo (stand.stl) and another without (stand_nologo.stl). You can choose to print either one. Watch our YouTube video for more information on printing settings at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2k3Cm7QWZY.
