Globe

Historically, globes were crafted by adhering a printed paper chart onto a spherical surface, frequently constructed from wood. Typically, these orbs feature numerous, slender strips of paper that taper to a point at the poles, small circular covers conceal the inevitable imperfections at these areas. The more strips are used, the less stretching and creasing is necessary to conform the paper map to the sphere's curvature. This method of globe production was depicted in an 1802 engraving within The English Encyclopedia by George Kearsley.
