Glifo is a set of tools designed to empower kids struggling with disabilities to unleash their creativity freely. By utilizing 3D printed objects, these kids can draw and write effortlessly, unencumbered by traditional constraints. This innovative project was spearheaded by the TOG foundation in Milan, which provides vital support to children with unique needs, in partnership with Opendot, a pioneering Italian fablab also based in Milan. Many young individuals face debilitating pathologies that severely impair their ability to draw and write, primarily due to hand shapes and postures that render this simple task daunting. Often, these children find it extremely difficult to open their hands due to chronic tightness or warping, forcing them to rely on unconventional methods like using the back of their hands and fingers as reference points. Our primary objectives were to create an object that is not only easy to replicate but also effortless to clean and transport. Additionally, we aimed to craft a design that exudes comfort and customization, acknowledging the importance of making it visually appealing for kids. The pen's ability to always point towards the paper was a critical consideration, requiring synchronization with hand movements. The design can accommodate pens or pencils up to 10mm in diameter, offering numerous handle variations. Our goal is to make this tool accessible and user-friendly for children who require assistance.
