Glen Etive outcrop (Mars)

This is a high-definition Digital Outcrop Model of the Glen Etive outcropping in the Glen Torridon clay-bearing formation within Gale crater on Mars. This model was created using Navcam and Mastcam photos captured between sols 2471 and 2555 by the Curiosity rover. These images are available in the PDS archive. This finely layered sandstone bed displays multiple cross-stratifications propagating in various directions, which suggests a highly dynamic hydrological system. Some of these cross-beds are intersected by fractures filled with calcium sulfate (gypsum). Model created by Louis Zaugg, revised and uploaded by Gwénaël Caravaca of LPG Nantes (UMR 6112 CNRS). Note: some projection errors remain, and we continue to work on correcting this issue.
