The Gleaves-class destroyers, comprising 66 vessels in total, were built for the United States Navy between 1938 and 1942. This detailed model features numerous animatable aspects such as guns, turrets, anti-aircraft Bofors, 20mm cannons, davits, whaleboats, hatches, propellers, rudders, flags, and anchors with chains. Handrails, ladders, and hatches are also visible throughout the model, while life rafts can be launched. These models render exceptionally well due to their realism achieved through good animation and rendering techniques. Distinct from Benson-class destroyers (DD-421), Gleaves-class vessels were identifiable by their round stacks. As the primary production destroyer for the US Navy at the onset of World War II, these ships were crucial to naval operations during the conflict.
