Green glazed vessels like this ornate vase with decorative handles were imported from ancient Southern Mesopotamia, now modern-day Iraq. The lower parts of these handles often end in knobs or paws. They were highly sought after in Southeast Arabia, particularly the UAE and Oman. Several of these artifacts were discovered as burial goods in tombs at Mleiha, located in Sharjah, UAE. These relics date back to the 2nd century BCE to the 1st century CE. Examples can be found in Overlaet's work (2018:18, Figure 6, Cat 6) and Córdoba's findings (2016:119, Figure 143). This particular vessel was unearthed in 2017 near the tomb of Amud in a nearby excavation site, ML17/FG.P.045. Its original vibrant green glaze has transformed into a beige to gold hue over time.
