Green-glazed vessels like this ornate vase with decorative handles originated from Southern Mesopotamia, now modern-day Iraq. The lower sections of these handles often terminate in knobs or representations of hands/paws. They were highly prized in Southeast Arabia, particularly in the UAE and Oman. Several examples of these artifacts were intentionally placed within tombs at Mleiha, a site located in Sharjah, UAE, as burial goods. Archaeological evidence suggests they date from the 2nd century BCE to the 1st century CE. Relevant examples can be found in Overlaet (2018:18, Figure 6, Catalogue Number 6) and Córdoba (2016:119, Figure 143).
