Glastonbury Cross

Glastonbury Cross

cults3d

In the 12th century, the monks of Glastonbury Abbey conducted an excavation with the intention of finding the remains of King Arthur. They claimed to have found two skeletons buried beneath a leaden cross on the Glastonbury Tor. Today historians doubt the authenticity of the monks’ findings. But the leaden cross was indeed a real object. An image of it was engraved in a book in 1607, but the cross, itself, has been lost since the 18th century. I made my own miniature replica from that engraving. Not perfect, but I still like it. The Latin inscription, roughly translated, is, “Here lies buried the renowned King Arthur in the isle of Avalon.” If you found this useful, please donate what you think it is worth to my paypal.me.
