Glasses Frames for Existing Lenses
thingiverse
Human: Remix of D&G Glasses found on Thingiverse, modified for existing lenses use, with spacing adjustments and hinge reinforcements added to improve durability. Slight modifications include the incorporation of a nasal outcropping support to stabilize the frame on most 3D printing machines. Instructions The remake begins with scanning the original lenses' flat dimensions using a scanner, providing precise measurements in two-dimensional form. Although precision was needed for an exact lens fit, only approximate dimensions were necessary given my constraints and prototyping focus, I instead opted for quick estimations to align with rapid development needs. The design involves estimating both internal and external tolerances of the original model in SketchUp after tracing and copying precise outer shapes that can conceal the edges around lens borders without adding visual distortions when combined. At this stage, we only consider half-finished parts due to expected alterations prior to finishing all designs thoroughly later down the road. Using "Push Pull Tool" features allows removing empty areas on previously removed model pieces for accommodating replacement lens hole insertion later stages which require printing specific layers of frames depending current progress levels. Further adjustment led towards achieving proper fit through several rounds until completion because each stage resulted unsatisfactory solutions such as too shallow holes and wobbling edges, hence leading necessity for greater changes throughout entire parts requiring print multiple times before successful end result appeared with all desired properties: correct dimensions size; well-suited shape resistance adequate length of holding elements needed at both the sides. This trial allowed us test print whole left or right frames depending whichever one seemed ready enough but it required combining these results together in a new 3D printable model - creating necessary additional modifications to successfully complete full D&G design without encountering difficulties later when attaching and positioning separate frame parts once again correctly so lens support doesn't bend inward. After that last try had produced mostly flawless prints (both side models mirrored back into wholeness afterwards making final pair perfect ones you see) there's only left adding necessary tiny elements such screws which provide strong connection holding together various hinge elements within main framework allowing full movement desired.
