Glasses Frames

You experience frequent breakage with your current glasses frames, which are now held together by glue and various adhesives. To solve this issue, you designed new frames that can be easily printed whenever needed, accommodating your existing lenses. These frames also have space for surface-mount electronics, wires, and other components. To create the frame design, you taped your current glasses to a screen at 1:1 zoom level and made a spline of the lens perimeter dimensions using a CAD tool. Other aspects of the design were adjusted according to personal taste, as long as the lenses fit correctly. Before printing, you plan to heat the nose bridge and lens areas with a hot air reflow station and bend them to match your current frames' curvature. The frames are slightly smaller than life-size to account for stretching during printing. To ensure proper lens fitting, print the design at 1:1 scale and cut out the interior frame shapes using your current glasses as a guide. If adjustments are needed, measure any discrepancies, update the CAD model, and reprint. Be prepared for potential improvements, such as beefing up hinge strength in future iterations.
