The Problem ---------------- The retainers holding my bookcase door's glass break easily. Cheap and flimsy plastic parts were used by the manufacturer. The Solution ------------- Design and print a better part that re-uses the same screw holes as was manufactured, with improved design. In the image with two parts, the white one is the original fragile part, the brown one is my reworked design. The manufacturer of the bookcase used countersunk screws but the original plastic retainers had no countersink, leading to frequent failure. My design has countersunk holes to solve this problem. The manufacturer did not have a left-hand or right-hand part; instead, they used the same part all around the glass sheet. I've also replicated and included the fasteners that are used along the sides of the glass sheet for added functionality. The Design ----------- My design is simple and straightforward. I'm certain there are numerous existing parts for retaining glass sheets in online repositories like Thingiverse. So, I've included the OpenSCAD source files so others can experiment and learn from my experience. The design is for 3mm glass sheet but since you have access to the source, you can adjust it to fit your needs. I printed the part in PLA at a resolution of 0.2mm with 20% infill.
