Glass sphere holder/light
thingiverse
I bought this glass sphere that had an engraving and it was supposed to come with a stand that would act as a light, that would make the engraving stand out. However it came without the stand so I created my own. The diameter of my glass sphere is 6cm but it should work for some larger ones as well, just that they will sit higher in the hole. I used a 12V simple IR remote controller that I had lying around and a piece of unused RGB LED strip. I glued the LED strip to the bottom and used a piece of A4 paper as a diffusion layer so that the sphere wouldn't project the sharp sources of light on my ceiling. The bigger hole is for the 12V power adapter that is coming out of my controller, the smaller one is for the IR receiver diode.M4 bolts should fit the bottom holes and they act as legs too.I did one mistake when printing mine and that is using white PLA which is quite transparent and so the light leaks through. I'd advise anyone to use coloured filament that stops light leaking through. The side walls are multiple of my nozzle width (0.4) and thus there's no infill. The top does have some infill since I designed it to be thicker for the sphere to sit firmly in the hole. This is a work-in-progress and I might add updated files if I update parts of the model.
