Glass holder for hands-free drinking
thingiverse
My name is Prasad because I'm living with muscular dystrophy, which has left me relying on my battery-powered Ottoback B 500 wheelchair due to the degenerative muscle disorder that's stolen my independence - now I struggle even with the simplest tasks like drinking and eating by myself. That's why I desperately needed a hands-free glass holder for my wheelchair that my friends who also rely on wheelchairs were just as eager to find. My mentor was wise enough to see the potential in me, so he handed over a 3D printer and told me it was time to put this technology into practice. Initially, I thought I was getting myself into a buzzworthy gimmick with no real value, but once I started seeing objects come to life on the printer's build plate, an onslaught of ideas began flooding my mind and suddenly 3D printing wasn't just something you read about in the news anymore - it became a revolution. That's when I decided that creating a custom glass holder for myself using this tech was worth giving it a try. As I brainstormed some design concepts, here are what came to my attention: 1.) The new gadget had to be versatile and able to hold different types of glasses or tins up to 75 cm in diameter. No small task! 2.) To stay within the line of sight while drinking from a glass should remain intact, I made sure the drink holder's design allows this. 3.) Without compromising practicality - which can often come into question with many DIY creations - my dream solution would allow easy attachment without any required tools. 4.) Easy removal would ensure effortless use of storage when you aren't using it. 5.) This project had endless possibilities, so integrating extra functionalities was the least I expected: for example mobile holders could be seamlessly added to facilitate operations on speakerphone settings with no struggle through voice commands at your fingertips; just that is more than enough. Moreover I thought "What would life be like if attachments could come off easily in seconds, and not just hold up perfectly without the risk of dislodging from sudden movements" And then... the glass holder can always keep all functionality intact - because even more cool features aren't necessary! In conclusion after careful thinking what really mattered to me. was this thing being "small, transportable during travel," a fact most wouldn't normally worry about
