I wanted to make a display case for some nice gaming dice I was getting and for my current collection. So I got a used coffee table that had a glass center with wood directly under the glass. What I did was create some supports to lower the wood and then some more supports to keep the glass 2.4" above the wood. For me, this was the max height I could drop the wood before it became visible when looking at the table from the sides. The supports are designed to handle 50 lb placed directly on the corners at 15% infill with PLA. I would not recommend going past 100lb even at 100% infill. Also be careful of the glass, mine can not handle that might weight placed in the center. The screw holes are for #4 wood screws. There are 4 in each corner. I used the following formulas to determine my screw thread engagement. I assumed 0.65 for the specific gravity of my table. 1/2 penetration should be enough. maybe go 3/4 if using plywood or attaching parallel to the wood grain fibers. F = 2850 SG2 D where F = allowable withdrawal load or force - lb per inch of penetration (lb/in) SG = specific gravity of oven dry wood D = diameter of screw (in) I included a template to mark the drill holes for the screws. The supports to keep the glass lifted have cut outs because my table had screws on the side. The pegs snap into the holes with a little bit of force and stay there well. I've had no need to glue them in or anything. DO NOT USE A CANDLE ON GLASS THAT HAS BEEN LIFTED. As you can see from the pictures, the glass on the table shattered due to the heat from a single 3 wick candle. Theory being I created a nice insulated area under the candle and the glass could not dispel the heat as it previously had when it was in direct contact with the wood below. I am surprised the heat from the candle was enough for this, but a valuable lesson learned nonetheless. Once I get a replacement glass (not sure if its even worth it, the table was $15 at a yard sale) I am going to add stands with built in micro LEDs in order to properly display my dice properly along with other items.
