Glass Bed- Jig for cutting corners

Glass Bed- Jig for cutting corners

thingiverse

I created this little jig to consistently cut corners off of glass for my printing surfaces. I'm using cheap picture frame glass, 2-3mm thick, recovered from broken frames discarded on the street. Since I've never cut borosilicate, your results may vary. To use this jig, you'll need a glass cutter and some cutting oil (kerosene or mineral spirits work well). You'll also need pliers to break off the corners of the glass (running pliers are preferred but regular pliers will do). Always break in the direction opposite the score-side of the glass. Sand or file the cut edges to eliminate shards, and wear safety goggles throughout. To use this jig effectively, rest your palm on the glass while holding onto the top handle with your fingers. Hopefully, my photos can guide you through the process, which I've used for both my Monoprice Select Mini v2 and Monoprice Maker Select Plus print beds. Most other varieties of print beds have a similar screw configuration. This jig was designed for a Toyo-brand glass cutter but should work with most others. Watch some videos on glass cutting, including stained glass techniques, before attempting to cut glass. Practice on affordable glass first. When applying the right amount of pressure, you'll hear a satisfying ripping sound. Keep the cutting wheel moving from one edge to the other without lifting or going back. Don't score over existing scores; it will create an ugly fractured break and lots of small shards.
