The form of a Cup is typically very similar to the cylinder or the truncated cone, with many variations. Unlike other kinds of plates and dishes, it does not have a handle attached to it. Cups also come in various types, some being faceted. Generally, the ratio of a Cup's height to its diameter at the base is roughly 2:1. It's approximately the same size as a human palm when held up. On average, a standard glass contains about 200-250 cubic centimeters of liquid. Those that hold less are usually called Cups, while very small ones are known as shot glasses. Common people think that an ordinary Cup holds around 200 milliliters if poured to the smooth edge and 250 ml if filled right up to the brim. Traditionally, Russians used certain measures for volume: twelve standard glasses were equal to one quarter of a pail or bucket, which is exactly three liters. Based on this system, one glass contains approximately 250 milliliters. Glasses are most often made from actual glass. In some languages like English, German and French the words "glass" and "glassware" are almost the same; that's why this fact has a significant impact in how people view cups as part of their home culture. Despite these cultural influences however glasses also can be created from materials other than traditional glass such as plastic metal ceramic paper as well for example - folding from different rings is becoming more and more common too, some transparent some opaque all have many purposes within everyday activities!
