Gladius Hispaniensis Lasercut
thingiverse
I made this mock-up of a gladius hispaniensis for my brother, and since I'm sharing it, maybe someone else needs a mock Roman sword too. The file is designed to cut out from an 800 x 600 sheet of 3mm plywood. It's slightly different from the one in the photo because after reading comments, I changed the hilt shape from square to oval and deleted the taniwha on the blade; if you want those designs back, just let me know. The sword was originally designed for 3mm plywood, but since my available plywood is only 2.7mm thick, I added some extra discs to the hilt - you might find there are too many. To prevent that hassle, I've added 2mm tabs on the cutouts so all your discs don't fall through and get lost. I think the best way to assemble the hilt is with large and small discs alternating, but feel free to experiment with different combinations. For assembly, I simply used PVA glue. The original file is in AutoCAD 2017 format, and if you want to remix it, just use white for "cut" lines and green for "vector etch". Let me know how your project turns out - I'd love to see your sword!
