Giuseppe Parini (May 23, 1729 – August 15, 1799), a renowned Italian poet and satirist of the neoclassic period, left an indelible mark on the literary world. His work resonated deeply with younger poets, who saw it as a beacon of morality and intellectual freedom. Ugo Foscolo, having met Parini in Milan, depicted him as a dignified and serious individual in his novel "Ultime lettere di Jacopo Ortis." Foscolo also used Parini's character to condemn the corrupt and wealthy town that had forgotten him, as seen in his poem "Dei sepolcri."
