Adam Fischer was born on July 28, 1888, in Copenhagen and died on January 18, 1968, in Ordrup. He was a Danish sculptor who made significant contributions to the art world with his Cubist-inspired works. After attending Vermehren's drawing school until 1908, Fischer went on to study painting at the prestigious Danish Academy from 1908 to 1913 under the guidance of Viggo Johansen. However, as a sculptor, Fischer was largely self-taught and relied heavily on his own skills and techniques. From 1913 to 1933, Fischer made Paris his home where he created several notable works, including statuettes and busts that showcased his unique take on Cubism. Among these early masterpieces are Ellen Fischer (carved from walnut in 1917) and Fransk Soldat (crafted from limestone in 1918), a soldier figure with a face composed of two distinct halves, each exuding its own distinct expression. Fischer's appreciation for the fleeting moment is also evident in his bronze statuette Fodboldspiller (or Football Player, crafted in 1915), an unusual subject matter for sculpture. In this piece, the figure's head, arms, and legs are depicted in multiple positions, much like a photograph taken by a camera that has captured movement.
