This sculpture showcases a woman reclining against a rock, beautifully crafted from alabaster. Vladimir Domogatsky was an esteemed educator and professor at the Moscow State Art Institute, as well as a respected member of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic. Born into a wealthy family with a doctor and landowner for parents, he spent most of his childhood in Switzerland, where he developed a strong foundation. He went on to attend Moscow University and pursued private lessons in sculpture from SM Volnukhin and painter S. V. Ivanov. With a thirst for knowledge, Vladimir traveled extensively throughout Europe, studying in multiple cities like Paris and Italy, where he honed his skills in European art and techniques, including working with marble. After completing his studies, he returned to Russia, where he took on the role of teacher at the Stroganov School in Moscow. His impressive career continued as he became a professor at the Moscow Institute of Fine Arts, eventually rising to the position of Dean of the Faculty of Sculpture. Among his notable students were prominent Soviet sculptors like Lev Kerbel, Vladimir Tsigal, and D. Mitlyansky. As he taught, Vladimir remained actively engaged in creating animal and portrait sculptures.
