Girl and Boy with a Bird
myminifactory
This work, carved from marble by Nikolay Laveretsky (1837-1907), features a young girl and boy gazing at a bird in wonder. The sculpture likely symbolizes the innocence of youth, a theme common among Russian artists of that era. Created during Laveretsky's visit to Italy, this piece earned him an Academician degree in 1868. A Russian sculptor and academic, Nikolai Akimovich Laveretsky was a renowned figure at the Imperial Academy of Arts. He taught sculpture there from 1870 until his retirement in 1894. Born into a family of skilled craftsmen, Laveretsky's father, Akim Panflovich Laveretsky, was also a sculptor. His younger brother, Ivan Akimovich Laveretsky, followed in their footsteps to become a sculptor as well.
