Girih Tiles

Human: Girih tiles possess an ancient Islamic artistry that conceals intriguing mathematical properties. Like Penrose tiles, they effortlessly tile an infinite plane without exhibiting any repeating pattern. They also share the same five-fold, quasicrystal characteristics, predating Roger Penrose's discovery by hundreds of years. In Islamic architecture, the edges of these tiles are deliberately de-emphasized, allowing the interior lines to be highlighted in a contrasting hue. When arranged, these lines forge intricate knot-work patterns that captivate the eye. I produced replicas of these tiles on a Form 2 in Grey V4. The lines were accentuated by coating them with Rustoleum enamel paint.
