Gira System 55 frame for Ikea Tradfri remote
cults3d
After replacing most lighting in our home with Hue compatible bulbs, I decided it was time to get rid of the old "dumb" light switches and replace them with holders for Ikea Tradfri switches, as these are a much budget friendlier option than the Friends of Hue branded switches. The back plate covers up the junction box and sits behind a standard 55 series cover trim plate from Gira, as this was the brand of switches installed in our home. The front plate screws onto the back with two M3 nuts and short bolts to neatly keep everything together, and uses a 8mm diameter magnet to hold the Tradfri switch securely in place. The switch sits nicely recessed but not too much so that removal to change the batteries is still easily possible and since it is held in by the magnet, requires no tools. Note these files are intended to be printed on a resin 3D printer (to achieve the fine tolerance for the switch fit, and a nice surface finish). Printing on an FDM will be possible but YMMV. Pre oriented and supported versions of the STL files are also provided as I have printed them for myself.
